What does the Hermit tarot card mean?

The Hermit is the ninth card in the tarot deck and is connected to the astrological sign Virgo, both signify accomplishment and truth seeking. Virgo is related to the golden age in our history, which was a time of heightened awareness, illumination and a society based on equality.

What does the Hermit card represent?

The Hermit signifies wisdom. On the card he is standing on a mountain and he is isolated but is carrying a light. This symbolises his position in the tarot as the carrier of knowledge. The mountain also representative of growth and accomplishment. The Hermit is draped in a cloak which denotes invisibility. He is carrying the patriarch staff which connects to the path of initiation and authority.

The Hermit is connected to the attainment of spiritual illumination and a willingness to share this knowledge with others. But only to those who are truly willing to learn and are open minded. The Hermit uses his periods of isolation as a means to start his path in order to attain higher levels of spiritual awareness.

When the Hermit card is brought up in a reading it represents introspection and a period of voluntary isolation. Now is the time to self reflect. It could also indicate truth seeking or the need to find a new direction in life.
