The Lovers tarot card meaning and description

The Lovers tarot card connects to the number six in the tarot deck and is associated with the astrological sign, Gemini. Gemini is connected to the element of Air and represents duality.  The twins in the Lovers card seek unity and bonding.

One of the most common associations with the Air element is the necessity to maintain and form healthy relationships. This card shows the importance of bonding, union and relationships in life. The Lovers card shows the two figures protected by the Angel Raphael. Angels are representative of desires here on earth. Raphael is draped in a purple cloak, symbolic of royalty, an elevated status, messenger and a strong connection to the divine. The sun shines brightly over the couple, denoting security, protection and warmth.

What does the Lovers card represent?

The earth in the card shows fertility, health and happiness, as well as desires. On the Lovers tarot card is the snake and the tree, indicative of the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve and the fall of man. The snake is also symbolic of the senses and earthly temptations.

There are flames behind the male figure, indicating the passion and the desires of man. The twelve flames in total represent the twelve signs of the zodiac, time and eternity. The mountain in the card is the phallic symbol, representing creation, fruition and the masculine. The water symbolises the female and fertility.

What does it mean when drawing the Lovers tarot card in a reading?

You will establish a deep bond with a lover or a person that is close to you when drawing the Lovers card. The Lovers card for relationships indicate marriage and or a passionate and intense relationship. Additionally, it could denote security in a relationship or a need to set your boundaries. If not in a relationship it could represent feeling attraction for someone and temptation.

When this card relates to a situation it means that you will be passionate about a project, or you will form new beliefs about yourself, such as self-love, not believing everything you are told and finding out what is best for you.
